SolarEdge, one of the biggest names in solar technology, is set to release the SolarEdge Energy Bank with an expected release in Q1 of 2022.
The Energy Bank is SolarEdge’s latest residential battery backup system. It hits the market at a time of peak battery demand, as well as peak shortage issues as a result of supply chain disruptions.
Even though SolarEdge has released very little information on the Energy Bank, we can provide a few details ahead of its release.
Here is a quick rundown, with more specifics below:

SolarEdge Energy Bank Spec Sheet
SolarEdge has released very few details about its latest battery, and a battery spec sheet is yet to be released to the wider public. However, there are some battery specs and details we do know.
Cost of SolarEdge Energy Bank
SolarEdge has not yet released the price of the Energy Bank. However, the price of the SolarEdge Energy Bank is expected to be comparable to the LG Chem RESU, at $7,000 before installation.
Power & Capacity of Energy Bank
The SolarEdge Energy Bank will feature 10kWh Li-ion technology, with up to 10kW of continuous and peak power.
This means the SolarEdge Energy Bank can hold a maximum of 10kWh on a full charge, and can push out 10kW of power on demand.
Energy Bank Depth of Discharge (DoD)
The SolarEdge Energy Bank will feature 100% depth of discharge (DoD)
DoD indicates the percentage of a battery’s energy that can be discharged relative to the overall capacity of the battery without damaging the battery’s cells. For instance, if a battery with 10 kWh of usable capacity can be discharged to 1 kWh without damaging the battery, that battery has DoD of 90 percent. The higher the DoD, the better the battery will perform and the longer life it will likely have.
The SolarEdge Energy Bank will be 100% wirelessly interfaced with the inverter. This has the benefit of eliminating the need for additional components and interfaces that come with wired connections.
As well, up to 3 Energy Bank batteries can be supported on a single inverter. This provides ease of expansion and greater capacity.
The Energy Bank is also high-voltage DC-coupled, which means it can receive power directly from the solar panels instead of going through an inverter first, which is necessary in AC-coupled systems. This provides greater efficiency by cutting out the need for DC-to-AC inversion. This also provides for a simpler integration with storage inverters.
Energy Bank Installation
Installation of the SolarEdge Energy Bank is much simpler than other, previous battery systems. The Energy Bank is plug-and-play, which means it has much simpler install requirements and can be installed in a much quicker, cheaper timeframe.
Also, the Energy Bank can be installed both indoors and outdoors, either ground-mounted or wall-mounted. This provides greater flexibility for installation and greater weather resilience.
Once installed, the Energy Bank comes with automatic configuration and pre-defined settings. This simplifies the install process and reduces potential confusion and setup errors.
